HOT CITY! oh yeah!

rar! lots going on - new 12" by Hot City is now off for pressing, and should be back early December. We're killing two birds with one stone, and throwing a release party/xmas party at the excellent Cafe Oto, London, on December 16th. The 12 is pretty full-on house music, with hearty big doses of 2Step/UKG and bass thrown in there and i'm well happy with! I'm sure you won't be disappointed either. I'll get some more info up here soon and some samples, plus set up pre-orders for it. In the meantime, you can check out two other Hot City tracks over on his lastfm page

Kwaidan review

many thanks to Joe Muggs for a very nice Kwaidan review in the latest issue of the Wire magazine:
"With both Geiom and Appleblim exploring territories below 130bpm, a new kind of dubstep House is looking increasingly promising, and it's that which Mat Ranson - usually known for glitch-hop as Fisk Industries - explores here. Both of these tracks evolve and unfold over almost 12 minute timescales; unlike many on the finges of dubstep, though, they don't simply rework Basic Channel tropes, but work with a sharper focussed soundfield, making use of the sawing, jagged oscillator hum beloved of Skream and those who follow him. In 'Hoichi', it rises up steadily in triple rhythm through snatches of dubbed-out chanted voices and ticking hi-hats, then falls away like a dream image. In 'Masaki' the buzzing is sharper, more electrical, and exactly follows the notes of a dub bassline through a more episodic development, with the dancehall syncopation enhanced by castanets and congas"

Triptych

The intrepid adventurer Mat/Fisk Industries is taking leave of these shores for the next year as he and his girlfriend travel the world in search of the best found sounds in the seven continents. We've given him a big batch of stickers to vandalise south east asia and nepal with, and in return he's given us a wee 3 track web EP as a send off gift. Three lush tracks of deep sound, crisp off-kilter rhythms and warped synth. Download the EP here.
